CLTC 2016 Annual Report

Cyber Workforce Incubator

CLTC produced a white paper detailing the concept for a “Cyber Workforce Incubator” that would enable top technologists from Silicon Valley to work for the federal government for one- or two-year terms. Through this program, technology professionals would receive fast-tracked security clearances, and would be able to work for the Department of Defense and other agencies while remaining on the West Coast, where they can remain tapped in to the culture and innovations of the tech industry.

Trans-Atlantic Manifesto on Intermediation Platforms

“The Chamonix Manifesto: Transatlantic dialog on the impact of the rise of global intermediation platforms” was written by the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity’s Steve Weber, Betsy Cooper, and Jesse Goldhammer, along with Frédérick Douzet, Chair of Cyberstrategy at Paris 8, and Stéphane Grumbach, Senior Scientist at INRIA. The purpose is to clarify key issues surrounding intermediation platforms, digital services that directly connect consumers and service providers, and that have sparked controversy—particularly in Europe—as a threat to the “digital sovereignty” of governments.

“Cybersecurity Futures 2020″ is a set of five scenarios released by the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity on April 28, 2016. The purpose of the scenarios, which focus on emerging areas like biosensed data, data markets, predictive algorithms, and other domains, is to help identify emerging areas of interest for researchers at UC Berkeley and beyond.
