Non-resident research fellow Malou van Draanen Glismann is an AI governance researcher at Stanford University, where her Master’s in International Policy focuses on AI= risk management and Chinese AI policy. At Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), she co-leads the AI Governance Affinity Group and contributed to the 2025 AI Index Report. She also writes on Chinese AI policy for DigiChina at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), and has researched cybersecurity policy at the Gordian Knot Center as a 2024 National Security Innovation Scholar. Beyond Stanford, Malou is a 2026 GovAI Summer Fellow and an Associate Researcher at the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, where she contributes to the risk management workstream. Prior to her graduate studies, she served as a Rangel Fellow at the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Malou holds a BSc in International Relations and Chinese from the London School of Economics. A native speaker of German and Dutch, she is professionally fluent in Mandarin and is a fellow of the German Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
