Citizen Clinic Fall 2019 Info Session

August 28, 2019 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Hearst Field Annex Building B, Berkeley, CA, 94704

  • This event has passed.

Have you heard about how UC Berkeley students are helping to defend civil society organizations from cyberattacks, disinformation, and online abuse? Examples of student projects include:

  • Protecting the LGBT community from online extremist groups
  • Improving the safety of human rights advocates during high-risk investigations
  • Understanding government surveillance of Indigenous communities in Latin America

Come hear more about Citizen Clinic on Wednesday, August 28th from 4:00-6:00pm in Hearst Field Annex Building B to learn about our program, meet the staff and former students, and discuss enrollment in our course INFO 289! Food and drinks will be provided.

Citizen Clinic is the first public interest cybersecurity clinic of its kind. The clinic is housed in the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC) at the Berkeley School of Information, and provides interdisciplinary teams of students with hands-on experience developing and implementing cybersecurity practices for politically-vulnerable organizations.

Enrollment for the Fall 2019 semester will be by application and limited to graduate students and exceptional upper-level undergraduate students. Students will be admitted into the course on a rolling basis from now until the first day of class. While some background in cybersecurity will be useful for the course, it is not required. Demonstrated ability in technology, law, policy, foreign languages, or other applicable skills is also desirable.

You can RSVP for the info session here. A valid UC Berkeley ID is required to attend.
