Enhancing Security Using Deep Learning Techniques

Recent advances in deep learning have led to state-of-the-art results on a diverse set of tasks, such as image classification, caption generation, natural language processing, and speech recognition. This research team will investigate the use of deep learning techniques to enhance the security of applications, including in IoT devices and crypto-currency smart contracts. In particular, they will investigate how deep learning techniques can help identify and locate vulnerabilities in programs and alert their users to apply patches; they will research how to apply deep learning techniques to prevent abusive usage of technologies, especially robocalls; and they will investigate approaches for mitigating the threats of adaptive attackers.
